Mrs Chatterjee vs. Norway : Review

An Indian infant is taken away by two white ladies early in Mrs Chatterjee vs. Norway. The mother chases after them, clings to the car, shrieks at it, and falls dramatically. This immediately signals that the dramatisation will be turned up to 11 and the decibel levels will remain deafening, sabotaging what could have been a beautiful story about a mother’s unwavering courage.Mrs Chatterjee vs. Norway, directed by Ashima Chibber (Mere Dad Ki Maruti), is based on the case of Sagarika Chakraborty, an Indian lady in Norway whose two small children were taken away by the country’s child protection authority on the grounds that she was an unfit mother. The Voyage Of A Mother, written by Chakraborty, has been adapted into a script by Chibber, Sameer Satija, and Rahul Handa. While the key ideas are taken from the 2022 published book, creative liberties have been taken in the voyage between page and screen, removing any remnants of restriction in the process.
